At the very bottom level, a roof will have a barrier that prevents leaks. This is a high-performance material that acts as a guard against moisture. The roof deck protection is next which manipulates rain and prevents it from penetrating the wood of the roof. At the edges of the roof are the gutters or metal drip edges. These collect water and direct them off the roof in an organized fashion, preventing puddles from forming and preventing water from accumulating.
